Senior Full-Stack Developer

Remote (Contract)


We're looking for a senior full-stack developer to join us on a 3 to 6 month.

About the role

  • This is a 3 to 6 month contract role, fully remote, open to candidates based in Australia and overseas, with the possibility of extension depending on project needs and mutual fit.
  • You'll be building Rally, our own proposal platform. The product is already in active development, with a React + TypeScript frontend and a NestJS + TypeScript API, and we need someone who can hit the ground running across both codebases.
  • This isn't just a heads-down coding role. We want someone who works closely with our designers, brings strong product and design sensibility, and can help us build something that feels genuinely best-in-class. You should care deeply about craft: clean interfaces, thoughtful interactions, and polished details.
  • We also want someone who's comfortable leveraging AI tools (we already use Cursor) to accelerate development, explore new features rapidly, and help the team adopt smarter workflows. You'll be expected to simplify our deployment processes, introduce best practices, and leave the team in a stronger position than where you found it.

Working with our design team

  • Our team includes senior product designers who are strong in design and product thinking but are looking to deepen their collaboration with engineering. A key part of this role is bridging the gap between design and development: helping our designers understand technical possibilities and constraints, and building a shared language so they can contribute more effectively to the product build process.
  • This means pairing with designers on implementation, giving constructive feedback on feasibility and interaction patterns, establishing a smooth design-to-dev handoff workflow, and helping them feel confident working alongside code, whether that's reviewing components in the browser, understanding how the frontend is structured, or using AI tools to prototype ideas themselves.
  • You'll be helping to shape how our design and engineering functions work together long after this engagement ends.

What you'll be working with

  • Frontend (rally-ui): React 18, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS v4, Radix UI Themes, React Aria Components, TanStack React Query, Formik + Yup, React Router, Playwright (testing)
  • Backend (rally-api): NestJS, TypeScript, TypeORM, PostgreSQL, AWS (S3, SES, SQS, SNS), Stripe, OpenAI, Passport + JWT auth, CASL (authorization), Swagger, AdminJS, Jest (testing)
  • Infrastructure and tooling: Docker, GitHub Actions, SonarQube, Sentry, Cursor AI, Husky + lint-staged

What you will do

The daily life of a Senior Full-Stack Developer at UntilNow looks something like this:

  • Build and ship features across both the frontend and backend, working comfortably in React and NestJS.
  • Collaborate directly with our senior product designers to translate designs into high-fidelity, production-ready UI, and push back constructively when needed.
  • Upskill our design team on how to collaborate more effectively with engineering, from design handoff and component structure to using AI tools for rapid prototyping.
  • Leverage AI tools like Cursor to prototype, explore, and build features faster, and help the whole team (designers included) do the same.
  • Simplify and improve our deployment pipeline, CI/CD workflows, and developer experience.
  • Introduce and teach best practices around code architecture, testing, performance, and maintainability.
  • Take ownership of technical decisions and help shape the direction of the product.
  • Write clean, well-structured, documented code that the team can build on after the engagement ends.

Your background

  • 5+ years of professional experience as a full-stack developer working with JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Strong, proven experience with React and Node.js (NestJS experience is a strong plus)
  • Solid understanding of relational databases, ORMs (TypeORM or similar), and API design
  • A genuine eye for design and strong opinions about what makes a product feel great. You notice the details others miss.
  • Experience working closely with designers and a track record of strong design-engineering collaboration
  • Experience working with AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Copilot, or similar) and a mindset for using AI to move faster
  • Comfortable working with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud services (AWS preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills: patient, articulate, and able to explain technical concepts to non-technical team members
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setup, take initiative, and manage your own time
  • Experience with Tailwind CSS v4, Radix UI, or React Aria Components
  • Familiarity with Stripe integration, payment flows, or SaaS billing
  • Experience with Playwright or similar end-to-end testing frameworks
  • Background working in or with design studios, agencies, or startups

Salary and Benefits

We're a small, senior team that values async communication and deep focus time. You'll have the autonomy to manage your own schedule, but we do expect regular availability during Australian business hours for collaboration with designers and the broader team. You'll work closely with our product designers and founders throughout the engagement, with regular check-ins and a strong emphasis on clear, written communication to keep everyone aligned.
