Product Designer
Sydney · Hybrid (Contract)
We're looking for a talented product designer to join our team.
About the role
- This is a contractual Mid Product Designer role based in Sydney with a hybrid work setup, allowing for a combination of in office presence and work from home flexibility.
- Design at UntilNow is AI augmented and outcome driven. You'll use AI tools as a natural part of your workflow, from early problem framing and research synthesis through to prototyping and iteration.
- You'll craft user centric designs, conduct user research, and apply design thinking principles.
- You'll collaborate with cross functional teams to deliver innovative and impactful product solutions for startups and scaleups.
What you will do
The daily life of a Product Designer at UntilNow looks something like this:
- Own product design work end to end. Partner with strategists, developers, and clients to define problems, explore solutions, validate concepts, and ship designs that move the needle for our clients.
- Use AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor to accelerate your workflow. Draft flows, surface edge cases, synthesise research, and rapidly explore solution spaces before moving into Figma.
- Conduct and synthesise user research to inform design decisions, treating research as a velocity tool rather than a blocker.
- Prototype concepts quickly using a combination of Figma, AI assisted code tools, and lightweight testing methods.
- Translate validated concepts into Figma for full state coverage, design system alignment, and developer handoff.
- Contribute to UntilNow's design culture by sharing prompts, patterns, templates, and learnings with the broader team.
- Collaborate directly with developers through the build process, staying involved through launch and iteration.
Your background
- 6+ years experience as a product designer working on complex, systems heavy products (B2B, SaaS, or fintech experience is a plus)
- Strong skills in visual design, interaction design, and creating user friendly interfaces
- Active use of AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, Cursor, or similar) as part of your design or research workflow
- Proficiency in Figma as your primary design tool
- Experience with design thinking methodologies to approach and solve complex problems
- Proficient in user research and UX research to gather insights and inform decision making
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams and stakeholders
- Strong communication and presentation skills to articulate design ideas and rationale
- Experience working in agile or similar collaborative environments
- Bachelor's degree in Design, Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction, or a related field is preferred
- Authorised to work in Australia
Nice to haves
- Comfort with basic front end concepts (components, states, responsive behaviour) and tools like Cursor or Claude Code
- Experience with design systems and extending shared component libraries
- Experience planning and running customer interviews or usability tests
- Familiarity with AI first product patterns (automation defaults, progressive disclosure of complexity, intelligent defaults)
- Portfolio that demonstrates strong product thinking, not just visual polish
